DATA FOR THE COMMUNITY
Ward 6 Data Initiative
Turning public data into clear, local insight — mapping neighborhood health and opportunity to inform decisions that shape Ward 6.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Turning Public Data Into Local Insight
The Ward 6 Data Initiative is a collaboration with Councilmember Charles Allen and BU Spark! that gathers, analyzes, and visualizes public data to tell the story of our neighborhoods. By combining sources like the U.S. Census, DC Open Data, and public safety records, we build a clearer picture of community health and opportunity.
What began as a Southwest DC dashboard has grown into a broader health-and-equity framework — one that helps residents and decision-makers see where investment and attention are needed most.

COMMUNITY IMPACT
Data That Empowers Decisions
Working alongside Councilmember Charles Allen and student researchers from BU Spark!, the initiative puts rigorous analysis into the hands of the people who can act on it. Residents, advocates, and local leaders gain a shared, trusted view of neighborhood health — the foundation for smarter, more equitable investment.
By making complex public data accessible and local, the Ward 6 Data Initiative helps ensure that community priorities are grounded in evidence.
